Famous actor Wendell Pierce took to social media to condemn the fan behavior he encountered in Game 5 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.
“Unfortunately I just left the Yankees game because I was talking to a Dodgers fan and people were throwing things at me,” Pierce wrote via X. “Unruly, obnoxious people can ruin everything. The worst experience ever. The game and experience is of no significance now. The spirit of sports ends with the ugliness of humanity.”
Pierce, who plays Captain Wagner in the CBS hit series “Elsbeth,” is well known for his roles in “The Wire” and “Jack Ryan.”
He continued to rip fans in a second post:
“The fact that some suburban who ha’s [sic] come to Yankee Stadium to act an ass, completely ruins the artistry of [Gerrit] Cole pitching a no hitter into the 5th, or [Freddie] Freeman with a 4 game consecutive home run streak: both in the World Series. It will mean nothing to me because all I remember will be the obnoxious fans I had to avoid.”
Pierce also wrote that he could “care less” about the game’s outcome, but that it was the player performances he would look back on.
“I saw [Aaron] Judge find his swing for a homerun, I saw a walk off Grand Slam homerun by Freeman. I saw a masterclass in pitching by Cole and [Jack] Flaherty. The players I will remember…”
This isn’t the first time unruly fans at Yankee Stadium made headlines this week.
Two Yankees fans were immediately escorted out of Yankee Stadium and banned from Game 5 after wrestling with Dodgers star Mookie Betts for a ball in the first inning of Game 4.
Fortunately, some good came out of the situation.
The fans’ four season tickets for Game 5 were confiscated by the Yankees (at full refund) and donated to a Bergenfield pediatric cancer patient, the boys’ two brothers and mother.
