Tiger’s injury-cursed season halted after surgery

Tiger Woods has undergone further surgery on his back in hopes to “alleviate the pain” of an injury-cursed season.
It is the sixth surgery on his lower back in the past decade.
The fifteen-time major winner described the procedure as a microdecompression surgery of the lumbar spine for nerve impingement, which has a recovery time of eight to 12 weeks.

A statement on X deemed the surgery to be a success.
“The surgery went smoothly and I’m hopeful it will alleviate the back spasms and the pain I was experiencing throughout most of the 2024 season,” Woods wrote.
“I look forward to tackling this rehab and preparing myself to get back to normal life activities, including golf.”
The 48-year-old has only played in five tournaments this year, being the four majors and the Genesis Invitational in Florida, which he hosted.
During the Genesis Invitational, Woods expressed his discomfort with back spasms while explaining a shank he hit on the final hole of the opening round.
At the event, Woods stated he had been dealing with the spasm external to the competition course.

The American has undergone various challenges and surgeries since suffering a serious leg injury in a car crash in 2021, which has limited his playing schedule.
Woods is not schedule to return to play until the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas in December.
He is also entered to partner with his son, Charlie, in the PNC Championship, which tees off on December 21 in Florida.
